The cemetery was laid out and blessed in 1854, and the graves around the Church were moved to the new cemetery. The center of the cemetery contains a section for the burial of Benedictine monks and sisters. Father Lemke's grave (Founder of Carrolltown and Saint Benedict's in November, 1847.) is in the center of this section and is marked with a monument. A Cemetery Association was organized in 1945 and has maintained the grounds since that time.

Saint Benedict's is the first parish in the United States established by the Benedictine Order.

The first church at Saint Benedict's was consecrated by Bishop John Carrol, the first bishop of the United States. (From Parish history.)
