Oak Hill Burial Park was founded in 1926 as a private cemetery by Reginald and Bettie Sumner. By 1930, the property was deeded to the City of Lakeland, which took over operation of the cemetery. The graveyard contains 120 developed acres of land, with nearly 80 acres of space available for future development. It is the most active of the municipal cemeteries in Lakeland, with about 500 burials each year.
Laurel Hill Cemetery and Temple Emanuel Cemetery are part of the Oak Hill Burial Park complex. The names of all three cemeteries are displayed at the park's main entrance. The City of Lakeland is responsible for the care and maintenance of all three cemeteries.
