Opened in 1858, St Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery is in the Kensal Green area of the London Borough of Brent. It is next door to (and to the west) of Kensal Green Cemetery, aka All Souls' Cemetery, which falls into the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. St Mary's Cemetery, Kensal Green, and St Patrick's Cemetery, Leytonstone, are the only two cemeteries in London which are completely Catholic. Both cemeteries are subsidiaries of the Secular Clergy Common Fund. St Mary's 29 acre site is still in operation today with burials and ashes interments, and a monthly mass taking place in the chapel.
The cemetery contains both public and private graves, including the graves of some eminent individuals. There are also many graves and memorials to those who were killed in the First and Second World Wars, including the Belgian Soldiers 1914-1918 war memorial and the Canadian memorial. More information on the war dead can be found on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) website.
Each grave in the cemetery has its own plot number (including this information in photo requests means your request is more likely to be fulfilled). The plot number may contain a mixture of numbers and letters. Some grave areas have been re-used, most notably grave numbers 7220-9085 (or SN 7220-9085), and earlier graves in G plot – but always check with the cemetery for further confirmation.
The website for St Marys Kensal Green contains details on burial records, a map to assist in locating graves, cemetery opening hours, and other useful information.
