East Lothian council carried out a survey at this graveyard in 2026 to monitor gravestones to adhere to new Scottish legislation. As a result, numerous headstones have a plastic note attached to identify those headstones which are unstable and/or need significant repairs.

If you are a relative and you think you may have a claim to any of the lairs here marked with such a note, please contact the East Lothian Council Bereavement Team on 01620 827209.

The council have made it explicitly clear they will not reach out to lair owners or family, but expect them to reach out to the council themselves. Some of the headstones marked as unstable date back over 200 years, so even if they are a distant ancestor, you may be the only person available to discuss repairs needed.

Contains the burial place of the "famous" Admiral Archibald Berekeley Milne.
