Diocese of Scranton has placed an 8-foot fence around the entire perimeter of this cemetery and has locked the installed gate. The cemetery appears to be off limits to the general public and is returning to nature. Note: June 10, 2014

In 1924 the C.M. Dodson Coal Company made a proposal to dig up the Frenchtown Cemetery to obtain the coal underneath. In return they offered to remove the bodies from Frenchtown to either St. Gabriel's Cemetery in Hazleton, or St. Patrick's Cemetery in McAdoo as the relatives of the deceased designated. The coal company also agreed to pay for new burial plots. It is estimated that were 1000 bodies, mostly pioneer Catholics. The cemetery was started in the mid-1800's and the last interment was about 1909. There is no further information available. There is no list of who was removed or what cemetery they were placed in. The tombstones were left in Frenchtown Cemetery, but most sunk into the mines over the years.
