According to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District records, three cemeteries were moved to Spears Creek as part of an expansion project at Fort Jackson in the mid 1950s. They were Shenon Family Cemetery, Burdell Family Cemetery, and Colonel's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery (which used to be located on Old Armory Ferry Road east of Colonel's Creek).
