The church and cemetery are located at the intersection of Geneva Co Rd 41 and Jim Martin Road, between Geneva and Hartford, Alabama, near the east bank of the Choctawhatchee River. The burial ground sets across the road from the present church. The original church set next to the burial ground. The original church, erected in the early 1850s, after relocating from it orignal site on the floodplain of the Choctawhatchee River, stood until 1950, when the present structure was completed. In 2023, members applied to nominate the burial ground for listing on the Alabama Historic Cemetries Registry, and the cemetery was added in February 2023. Confederate veterans buried in the graveyard include my paternal great grandfather, James Monroe Fulford find a grave #48294366 - Archibald Bell "Archie" Hendrix find a grave ID $61610685 - John Hatcher III find a grave ID #42171680 - The road where the church and burial ground are located was originally named Old Newton Road, which originated east of Geneva, Geneva County, Alabama, ran north following the course of the Choctawhatchee River and terminated at Newton, Dale County, Alabama, near the headwaters of the Choctawhatchee River. That road is today named Geneva Co Rd 41 in Geneva County and Hilltop Road in Houston County, Alabama. The earliest marked grave is that of Rev. Sanders "Sandy" Bush, find a grave ID #77735679, who was serving as pastor when he died in 1850, after the relocation of the church, which began as a brush arbor.
