Mersey Vale Memorial Park was opened in 1968 following an agreement between multiple councils that would provide a central lawn cemetery for the area. The first burial occured in March of that year, and continues to be open to the publich for interments and burials. This has all contributed to the need for continual expansions at the Memorial Park, which is more than 25 hectares in size. It is well signposted however, with onsite maps detailing plot information for each area identified on the attached map image.

The Devonport City Council maintain an online record of interments, however it is acknowledged that this does not represent a complete record of all burials. This is further complicated by the search function having combined burial records for Devonport General Cemetery. However, the plot information can be a distinguishing feature between the two, with Mersey Vale only having Lawn/Section, Wall and Memorial Garden plots available.
