The Cemetery was opened c. 1864 and an advert placed in the Pateley Bridge & Nidderdale Herald on Saturday 16 January 1864 asking for "a suitable Person to fill the office of REGISTRAR, GARDENER, and SEXTON, at the above Cemetery."

Pateley Bridge & Nidderdale Herald - Saturday 23 April 1864 - CONSECRATION OF A NEW CEMETERY.— We understand that the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of Ripon will consecrate the new cemetery for Bilton-with Harrogate, this day (Saturday), at 11 am. The new cemetery, which is situated in a most commanding position, is now rapidly approaching completion; and the two neat chapels near the entrance, form quite an ornament in the landscape. The accommodation which the cemetery will afford has long been very much required in Harrogate. (info J Jackson)
