Muiravonside Cemetery is the modern burial ground serving the parish communities of Whitecross, Maddiston, Rumford, and the surrounding rural area. Located on the hillside above the historic Muiravonside Parish Church and its' churchyard, the cemetery sits beside the Union Canal and overlooks the wider parish landscape.
The cemetery was created as a new extension to accommodate the growing population of the district. Historic mapping shows that the site did not exist on late‑19th‑century Ordnance Survey maps, but it does appear on early 20th‑century editions. This places its establishment some time in the 1890s. The Muiravonside War Memorial, erected in 1921, stands near the cemetery entrance and commemorates parishioners lost in the First World War, with a later plaque added for the Second World War.
Today, Muiravonside Cemetery remains the active burial ground for the parish, containing 19th‑, 20th‑, and 21st‑century memorials and family plots.
There is ample parking for the Cemetery and Churchyard at the entrance to both.
