orton Cemetery was opened in 1869 and the register of Burials covers 1869-1995. The internments include of ashes as well as burials.
Plot Maps:
There is a map of "Plot area codes" for the Cemetery which gives a good idea of where each plot is though it isn't entirely to scale and the positions of buildings relative to plots does not seem to be completely accurate.
As well as the single sheet map there are more detailed maps available online of the plots which indicate where each grave number is with in the plot areas.
Plot labelling:
There is an inconsistency in the labelling of plot areas in different documents. On the single area code map, many of the areas a labelled as a letter followed by a 1 (E.g. A1). However on the more detailed maps the 1 is shown as an apostrophe (E.g. A') with the result that the entries in Findagrave are inconsistent in their labelling - Most use the number "1" while others use the letter "I" (upper case i). This needs to be taken into account if you are searching the index by plot code.
Pauper's graves:
On the detailed map for areas S & R there is a section where the grave plots are much smaller. These all contain multiple burials and I assume that these are pauper graves - none of these graves have a grave stone.
