The Cypress Street Cemetery was consecrated in 1823, with the first known burials being that of George Reibey (d. 30.10.1823) and possibly a transfer from York Street, John Tildesley (d. 26.06.1811). It is estimated that there were at least 30,000 burials at this cemetery, and this includes 4 individuals from the First Fleet.

The cemetery was closed in 1906, aside from relatives, and the last known burial was that of Violet P. Coats (d. 07.07.1929). The cemetery lay neglected for years until the Launceston City Council claimed eminent domain in 1953, and it was eventually converted to a sports ground and is now known as Broadland Park.

Only an aged brick wall and a plaque dedicated to the First Fleet remains, with no other indication of what this site used to be. A cairn constructed from remnants of headstones found were placed at the Launceston Church Grammar School.
