History of the cemetery was provided to the Huron County Branch O.G.S.
Hullett R.C. and Clinton Cemetery
In 1848 a group of Irishmen left their native land to make their home in the "New World" because of famine caused there by the failure of the potato crop. They setteled on land north of Clinton which was owned by the Canada Company and became known as "Paddy's Settlement." Many of them died young and a cemetery was needed and used in the early 1860's. This cemetery was used for many years and many of the original settlers are buried there with their families.
One of the early settlers was Dominic Reynolds. He and his wife Mary bought Lot #21, Concession 5 in the Township of Hullett in 1882 and the land on the south east corner of this lot is where this cemetery is located.
The graves were dug by neighbours and friends and care given by their families. Later years and families moved away some of the graves were neglected so a "bee" was organized and some of the broken tombstones were piled beside the fence. Some of these stones date back to the 1860's.
In 1940 the original cemetery lots were nearly filled and Father Simon MacDonald arranged to buy more land to the north of the orignial cemetery.
In 1952 Father J.L. O'Rouke arranged to have a new fence built around the original cemetery and it is maintained by a few devoted parishioners.
Provincial government regulations state that a cemetery has to have a Board to govern it and perpetual care, etc. so this cemetery was ordered closed.
Father J.W.P. Graham arranged to buy land from the Clinton Cemetery Board, with the first burial in 1957.
