The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Stanwix, Carlisle.

The church and churchyard is located on part of the site of the ancient Roman fort of Petriana. The present church was built in 1841, on a site where older churches have stood for at least 1,000 years.

The churchyard, parts of which are now dedicated to wildlife habitat, was closed to most burials in 1886, and many gravestones have been cleared away. Further information is available on a leaflet which can be obtained at the parish office or in the church.
