Fairmount Cemetery was purchased from the heirs of Joel Long by Lick Township and Jackson Town for nineteen hundred dollars. Jackson paid the township sixty per cent. It was then called the Union Cemetery. The corporation afterward bought the interest of the township and is now the city cemetery. It was renamed "Fairmount".
To every native of Jackson, Fairmount is a most peaceful comforting hilltop. As one looks up Sugar Run toward Wellston through Petrea, or up Salt Creek to Camba or down toward Cove in the preglacial valley, or across to other hill crests all about the same height as Fairmount, there is much loveliness to feast the eyes. Naturally, to those of us who have loved ones there, the beauty and harmony of Fairmount is greatly enhanced. The town seems to nestle in a forest. There are few more beautiful "cities of the dead" anywhere.

The cemetery is located in Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio, and is # 5948 (Fairmount Cemetery) in "Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003", compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
The cemetery is registered with the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing (ODRE) as Fairmount Cemetery with registration license number CGR.2009000381.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID for the cemetery is 1060814 (Fairmount Cemetery / Fairmont Cemetery).
