Established in 1905, Rose Hill Cemetery is the final resting place for approximately 18,000 persons. The main entrance area is located along the 500 block of E. Pleasant Valley Blvd. still within the borders of the City of Altoona. However, most of the 49 acres and most of the graves are located in Logan Township. At one time, Altoona's trolley system connected to the cemetery and some families actually relied on trolleys as the hearse to move deceased loved ones to Rose Hill. In the early days, a set of eight graves could be purchased for just $3, according to an AP newspaper story, and each burial cost just 50 cents.
