Glenwood Memorial Gardens is a nondenominational cemetery situated on approximately 70 acres
History
First established in 1849, Glenwood Memorial Gardens was originally known as Glenwood Cemetery. The first burial at Glenwood took place in February 1850 and it was originally located at Ridge Avenue and 27th Street in the North Philadelphia Section of Philadelphia. Glenwood was named for the street adjacent to the cemetery, Glenwood Avenue. In 1938, due to eminent domain by the City of Philadelphia, Glenwood Cemetery and all its burials were moved to its current location Broomall, Delaware County.
The "new" Glenwood
The "new" cemetery, Glenwood Memorial Gardens, was established in 1923. The first burial took place in February 1924.
In 1996, the first of 3 community mausoleums opened.
