Cold Springs Cemetery is an active cemetery located at 4849 Cold Springs Road in the Town of Lockport, (Niagara County), New York.

There are two entrances to the cemetery, one being on Cold Springs Road at the cemetery office, the other is on Chestnut Ridge Road.

The cemetery was organized in 1840, although there were many burials prior to that.

The land is actually four separate cemeteries. The cemeteries are adjacent to one another and are not separated by any apparent boundaries. This may lead to some confusion when someone is searching for a particular grave.

The first cemetery is usually referred to as "The Old Burying Ground".

The Old Burying Ground borders Cold Springs Road near Chestnut Ridge Road and is surrounded on three sides by a beautiful stone wall. For many years local researchers have searched for written records pertaining to this cemetery. None have been found.

The second is a Quaker Cemetery that also borders Cold Springs Road. It is north of the cemetery caretaker's house. This small cemetery is surrounded on all four sides by a stone wall. There are no known records of the burials in this cemetery. It is believed that the burials in this cemetery were moved here from another location in the City of Lockport. A past cemetery caretaker (now deceased), believed that some of the remains in this cemetery were actually moved more than once. Other local historians concur. Early maps of the Village of Lockport show a cemetery near the corner of Sargent Drive and Locust Street in what is now the City of Lockport. There are no signs of a cemetery in that area today. Other maps show a small cemetery at the intersection of Chestnut and Market Streets in the City of Lockport. There is no sign of a cemetery at that location today. It is believed that remains from those two cemeteries were moved here many years ago.

The third is "Price Cemetery". Price Cemetery is a triangular parcel that is adjacent to Cold Springs Road and the railroad tracks that border the cemetery to the north. Price Cemetery is the last parcel you would pass if you are driving north on Cold Springs Road before crossing the railroad tracks. There are no known record of burials in this cemetery although there is cemetery map in the Cold Springs office. The map is hand drawn, and is difficult to interpret.

In recent decades the staff of Cold Springs Cemetery have maintained the Price Cemetery grounds, and occasionally performed burials there. Those recent burials in Price Cemetery are recorded in the written records of Cold Springs.

Cold Springs itself is the biggest cemetery. It covers many acres and holds many thousands of burials. There is a local legend that the early records of Cold Springs Cemetery were lost in a fire. Fortunately this is not true. The records survive, and are in fairly good condition.

When the cemetery was incorporated in 1840 the cemetery sexton recorded the sale of each lot. The lots were generally priced around ten dollars apiece, and had enough room for 8-10 burials. The cemetery sexton recorded the lot owner's name only, not the names of those buried on the lots. It was the duty of the lot owner's family to know who was buried there. For that reason there are many (probably thousands) of unmarked graves.

In 1914 the cemetery caretaker began recording each burial, along with date, section and lot number.

Section 3 of the cemetery was used for the burial of less affluent people, and most of the burials there are unmarked. There are two sections of burials of residents of the local I.O.O.F. (International Order of Odd Fellows) home. Those plots are in Section N and Section W. Most of the burials in the I.O.O.F. lots are unmarked.

Anyone searching for a particular burial in this area is encouraged to search in both Cold Springs and Price Cemetery. Many graves in Price Cemetery are incorrectly listed as being in Cold Springs, and vice versa.

The Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery is across the street on Cold Springs Road. Many early newspaper obituaries incorrectly indicate Cold Springs Cemetery, or "Cold Springs Lutheran Cemetery".
