Greenwood Union Cemetery, originally known as Union Cemetery of Rye, dates back to 1837 and is located approximately 30 miles north of New York City, and a few miles from the Connecticut border. The cemetery occupies 54 acres of which approximately 35 acres are in the City of Rye and 19 in the Town of Harrison. It is a non-sectarian, non-profit corporation formed under the Rural Cemetery Act of 1847.
