Lincoln Memorial Park, consisting of 20 acres, is situated in the northern part of the City of Carson along the border of the City of Compton. Founded in 1934 by a Compton businesswoman, Irene Morris, who along with community clergymen planned and developed this cemetery primarily for the benefit of the local African-American residents who at the time were lacking a decent burial place, as many of the Los Angeles area cemeteries were still segregated at that time.


In 2023, the owner of Lincoln suffered serious health issues and abandoned the cemetery. Community volunteers have since been working to get the grounds groomed and the gates open for visitation.


In 2024, the cemetery suffered a serious vandalism when thieves pried the bronze markers off of the walls of the mausoleums. They also stole the large bronze plaque that was dedicated in 1949 by boxing champ Joe Louis, in honor of WWII veterans. Fortunately, a photo of that plaque exists and is among the photos on this page.
