After working in the coal mines for most of his life, be became a truck driver. He retired in the mid 1970's after a second back injury.
His life was quiet and for the most part, uncomplicated. He always told me, "I'm just what I am, an old mountain man."
He became a Mason, Scottish Rite and later a Shriner. He was most proud of being a Mason and was Master of his Lodge at one time.
Bluegrass music was his favorite and "Kentucky" by the Osborne Brothers his favorite song.
