NEW ALBANY – Sammie "Dave" Eason Goodwin, 77, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at his residence. He was born April 24, 1935, in New Albany to Baker "Tom" Goodwin and Eva King Goodwin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired railroad inspector for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in New Albany and the Calvary Men's Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Trey Lambert, the Rev. Creighton White and the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the New Albany City Cemetery. United Funeral Service in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his daughter, Rita Goodwin Murry (Rick) of New Albany; a sister, Elizabeth Goodwin Hale (Joe) of Myrtle; two grandchildren, Ryan Murry (Ashley) of New Albany and Renee Murry Ewing (Stephen) of New Albany; and two great-grandchildren, Sam Ewing and Wes Ewing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Smith Goodwin; two sisters, Lucille Sanders and Marie "Maude" Smith; and two brothers, James "Jiggs" Goodwin and Van Goodwin.
Pallbearers will be Roger Goodwin, David Hale, Don Sanders, Mike Smith, Scotty Smith and Dr. Eddie Yoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Prewitt, Billy Don Bevill, Norman Hill, Terry Hill and Richard Tate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 113 Hwy. 15 N., New Albany, MS 38652.
In honor of Mr. Goodwin, United Funeral Service Inc. will fly the flag of the United States Army at the funeral home during visitation and service.
