She was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Reed Township, Seneca County, to Chester and Mattie (Hoover) Michael. She married Clarence F. Schank April 23, 1949, in Bellevue, and he preceded her in death in July of 1984.
She is survived by six children, Marcia (Marty) Tuzzolino of Alta Loma, Calif., David (Paulette) Schank of Republic, Charles Schank of Welch, W.Va., Patricia Schank Morgan of Newtown Square, Pa., Martin (Elizabeth) Schank of Republic and Sandra (Scott) Kessler of Bloomville; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Kyle Schank; and a sister, Virginia Reed.
Janice was a member of the Republic Senior Citizens, the Wade Benfer American Legion Post No. 404 Ladies Auxiliary, Republic, a 1944 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School and a 1947 graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing, Cleveland. After graduation, she joined the WACS and went to Oklahoma where she worked on the Navajo Indian reservation as a nurse.
Her funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, OH 44818, (419) 983-2111, with the Rev. Jeff King officiating. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the funeral home.
