Lee Roy Ward, 95, of Waxahachie, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hamilton Beeman Cemetery.

Lee Roy was born in Navarro County, Texas, to the late Ernest and Julia Martha (Ellis) Ward. He served as a radio operator with the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II in the North Africa and Mediterranean theaters. He received the certificate of valor for his service in the Mediterranean operations from the U.S. Army Air Corp. Other decorations and citations received included a Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal GO, EAME service ribbons, one Silver Star and two Bronze Service Stars. He completed his service prior to honorable discharge, teaching at the radio operator school in Sioux Falls, SD.

He graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God College, (now Southwestern Assemblies of God University), in Waxahachie, Texas. Lee served there as Assistant Dean of Men until he began his missionary service. With his broad range of gifts, Rev. Ward served as a bush pilot, builder, seminary and grade school planter, and a boarding school house-parent.

Upon retirement to the United States, Rev. Ward faithfully served as a custodian and Senior Adult Minister at University Assembly of God church in Waxahachie, TX. until the age of 80. His volunteer support continued on until this past year when health restrictions prevented his service. He held credentials for 62 years with Assembly of God. He will lovingly be remembered for his exceptional story-telling, memory for names and dates, his warm hand shake, his always-at-the-ready to help, a green thumb that provided produce and flowers to share, and the open joy of investing in children's lives – especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Ward, who served with him for 33 years in Liberia and Nigeria, West Africa; and sisters, Fay Hutson and Ida Nisperos.

Survivors include his daughters, Anita Barnes, of Waxahachie, and Joyce Eden and husband, Gerry, of Clovis, CA.; grandchildren: Jenni Eden, Laaz (Matt) Eden, Adam Barnes and his wife, Becka, and Anneliese Barnes; great-grandchildren: Lady May Eden, Carson Eden, Eliza Barnes and Norah Barnes; brothers: Charlie Ward, of Jacksonville, TX., Fred Ward, of Bochita, OK., and Ernest Ward, Jr. and wife, Jimmye, of Corsicana; sister, Sue Herndon, of Waxahachie; other relatives and many friends.
