Maria Sala.
November 2, 1901 January 30, 2006.

GREENFIELD Maria (Mary) Sala, 104, passed away after an abundantly full life on Monday, January 30, 2006 at her home in Greenfield, California.

The epitome of a proud American, Mrs. Sala attributed her long and healthy life to walking everywhere, as she never owned a car.

She was born November 2, 1901 in Gordola, Switzerland to parents Amelio and Angelica Corda. A South County fixture,

Sala arived in the U.S. at 18 and came to Gonzales joining her cousin, Angelo Corda on his farm. Serving meals to ranch hands, she met and fell in love with Guiseppe (Joe) Sala, a dairy farmer and sugar beet grower, "He was a handsome devil," Maria used to tell her family.

The couple moved to a farm near Greenfield after they married and had four children; Alvira, Elsie, Irene, and Aurelio.

Mrs. Sala became a United States Citizen at age 25, was Grand Marshall of the Harvest festival and named Greenfield "Mother of the Year" in 2000. She was honored by Monsignor. Morgan as the oldest member of the Holy Trinity Church. Republican through and through, Mrs. Sala looked forward to getting informed and then voting in every election.

Sala was presented with a solution from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

Maria Sala has been an inspiration to all whose lives she has touched. She firmly believed in the love of family, friends, hard work, and above all, a firm belief in God
