Erna H. Tkachenko, 91, Minot, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at her home with family by her side holding her hand.

Erna was born on January 31, 1924, the daughter of Leonard and Tilda (Helgeson) Farnum. She was baptized in 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. Erna was united in marriage to Emery Blowers on November 6, 1943. To this union three children were born, Marlene, Everett and Robert. Emery passed away on April 10, 1984. Erma married Frances LeMay on July 2, 1988. He passed away on September 29, 1988. Erna moved to Minot and married William Tkachenko on June 13, 1998. William passed away on October 7, 2014. Erna was blessed with having her granddaughter, Michelle as her caregiver the last two years. Erna was very happy to move in with Michelle and her family instead of having to be in a nursing home. She enjoyed being with her great-grandchildren and loved the hugs she received from them at bed time. Erna was able to still do the many things she liked, things like getting her hair done at the beauty shop, going out for lunch, shopping, and playing bingo. The joy of her life was her great grandson Christopher. The two of them had a special bond and she loved him with all her heart. Everyone who knew her had heard about her boy Christopher. Erna loved to feed her family and guests and was sometimes known as the "food pusher", she wasn't happy until she knew the person was full. She loved to make homemade bread and caramel rolls and if you ask any of her grandkids, they would tell you they were the best! Her grandson Ken loved her prune cookies, they were very good but you had to be careful not to eat too many. Everything Erna made was full of love for the people which she shared it with. Erna was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge, both of Minot. For many years she went dancing every Saturday night and loved to polka.
