She married John Franklin Warren Wright (1890-1978) in Lowndes County, Mississippi on 4 Aug 1907. She had 3 childsren who lived to adulthood: Mary Newton Emma Wright (1908-1986), Florence Alice Wright (1909-1956), andJohn Thomas Wright (1913-2011). Mellie died on 13 Sep 1914 from complications after childbirth of her 4th child, Mellie L Corene Wright (25 Jul-25 Sep, 1914). Her husband John later married Mellie's cousin Mary Evelyn Brownlee.
