Susan E. Hicks was born Jan.14th, 1832 and died Feb. 15th, 1913, age eighty one years one month and one day. She was married to J. Roland on March 14th 1850. To this union eight children were born, four of whom proceeded her in death, three dying in infancy. Two boys and two girls are left to mourn the loss of a mother, besides grand children and a host of friends. The two daughters living are Mrs. Isabel Brink and Mrs. Susan Dunn, the boys are G. W. and S. E. Roland. Mr. Roland the husband and father died Feb 17th 1879. In 1881 Mrs. Roland was re-married to J. A. Gibbens who died in 1884. At the age of fifteen years she unied with the Presdyterian Church and remained in that church until she came to Weatherford, then united with the M. E. Church where she remained until death came to her relief. Mrs. Roland suffered much in her last days but was patient and kind and some times expressed a wish to depart and be with her Christ. The funeral services were held Sunday after-noon at the M. E. Church by Rev. James and the body was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery.
