V. E. “Jeep” Spurgin, Jr., 94, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Anson General Hospital. Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 24, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Wright and Jimlee Baucum officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Born January 24, 1922, in Noodle, Jeep was a son of the late V. E. and Ethel (Ashby) Spurgin, Sr. He graduated from Anson High School in 1939 and was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Jeep married Donella Baxter November 24, 1948. In the 1950’s, Jeep worked as the Jones County Treasurer and Jones County Clerk. He served as the City Manager of Anson from 1964 to 1978. Jeep returned to work for the county as County Auditor from 1978 to 1990. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church. Jeep was an avid golfer and quail hunter.

Jeep was a member of the Anson Lions Club for 69 years and the West Texas Central Texas Municipal Water District Board for 23 years. He also served on the Anson General Hospital Board and the Housing Authority Board.

Jeep was preceded in death by his wife, (Donella); one brother, (Kyle Spurgin); one sister, (Neva Sasser); a brother-in law, (Carlton Sasser); and a sister-in-law, (Jeanne Liner).

Jeep is survived by one daughter, Lisa Cook (and husband, Guy) of Yukon, OK; one son, Kirk Spurgin of Asheville, NC; two grandchildren, Alan Cook (and wife, Katie) and Allison Doll (and husband, James); two great-grandchildren, Sloan Cook and Call Cook; one niece, Barbara Holmes; four nephews, Jimmy Sasser, Bob Spurgin, Terry Spurgin and Fred Liner; and a special friend, Kay Haynes.
