During the 80s and '90s, he fronted progressive metal band Savatage. In 1996, he founded the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which included Savatage members Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli. Their thunderous music and over-the-top light shows made them a popular concert draw worldwide.
Paul died due to a lingering illness.
