Herald, age 87, was the son of Marion Calbert and Dorothy (Hines) Shirley. He married Zara Mae Cole. He was a US Veteran serving In World War II with the 64th Navy Construction Battalion in Newfoundland, Hawaii, and the Philippines. He was a carpenter and contractor and built many beautiful homes in and around DeRidder. He worked for Magnolia Petroleum Company in Cameron Meadows. He was a Master Mason for 50 years. Herald also contributed heavily to the FindaGrave website, creating 49,493 memorials to commemorate those who had fallen before him; laying down 7,593 virtual flowers to significant memorials across the site.
