She enjoyed her rural neighborhood of family, friends, church and school until 1943, when she enlisted into the U.S. Army. On Easter Sunday 1944, PFC DeFreese met Staff Sgt. Willard Moore. Six weeks later, she married him, and they both shipped off to Europe. After the war, Norma and Bill returned to Hillburn to begin their family with Nancy, Daria, Willard, Jr. and Christopher.
