SMITH JR., Raymond Thomas, age 74, a long-time resident of Dayton, Ohio was born June 26, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Raymond Thomas Smith, Sr. and Virginia Finney-Daniel. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1962 and attended Knoxville College.
Raymond accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Corinthian Baptist Church, where he also sang in the Men’s Choir. Raymond worked many years for the Chrysler Corporation where he retired as a welder. He loved singing, watching action movies, especially karate and kung fu. He enjoyed playing cards and chess and loved football, especially the Cleveland Browns through the good and the bad. His greatest joy was being around family and friends. His charismatic sense of humor, and unique sense of fashion will be missed. On Monday, November 19, 2018, Raymond Thomas Smith, Jr., transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord, after a brief battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his Father, Raymond Thomas Smith, Sr., Mother, Virginia L. Finney-Daniel, Sister, Beverly L. Smith-Harris, and Wife, Beverly Jean Walton-Smith. He leaves to cherish precious memories and celebrate his legacy: (3) children, Jesse Smith, Sr., Karen (Darryl) Reid, Elizabeth (Chad) Gilbert and (1) adopted child, Karen (Mel) Sims; (7) grandchildren, Jesse, Jamaal, Raeshawn, Julius, Aniya, Caleb and Nyla; (7) great grandchildren, along with a host of other loving family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., FRIDAY, November 30, 2018 at CORINTHIAN BAPTIST CHURCH, 700 James H. McGee Blvd.,
with Rev. Dr. P. E. Henderson, Jr. officiating.
