Mandeville Peter "Pete" Schurman Strang was the youngest child of Peter Schurman Strang and Susan Maria Whiing. He never married. He worked as a teamster in his early years, later becoming a motorman on the railroad. He had a low point in his life, and was committed to the Essex County Sanitarium in 1930. He recovered, was released, and worked for the railroad.
