Ed, 73, of East Lyme, CT and Naples, FL passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2021, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born April 17, 1948 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward J. Behney Sr. and Eleanor Pierce Behney.

His family relocated to New London CT in 1950 where he attended Harbor Elementary School. In 1960 his family moved to the Eastern Point area of Groton CT. He attended Pine Point School and Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor where he played lacrosse. Ed attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduating in 1970 with a degree in Economics.

He served in the US Navy from 1970-1972 as a commissioned officer aboard the USS Independence.

In 1976 he earned an MBA from UCONN.

Ed began his career at Electric Boat in 1974 where he met his future wife, Linda. He worked for 32 years as a Financial Analyst and retired in 2006 as Chief of Business Planning. Ed had a strong interest in Electric Boat and PT Boat history. He donated a vast treasure-trove of PT boat memorabilia to the National PT Boat Museum at Fall River.

In his early years, Ed had a passion for fishing and racing blue jays at his beloved beachfront family home that he shared with his parents and six siblings on Fishers Island Sound. His family fondly named the homestead "3 Rock Yacht Club", where many family work parties, regattas and celebrations took place; 47 Beach Pond Rd brought him and his siblings together for many years. He was revered as the neighborhood pond hockey pro! He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and a vacation would never be complete without a visit to a Harley store for a tee-shirt. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed attending annual games with his family. He excelled at table tennis (something he perfected in the Navy) and taught his grandsons so well that they beat him, but very seldomly.

Ed married the love of his life, Linda Stowe on July 13, 1991. Linda and Ed lived a beautiful life together. They traveled to many places including Italy, London, Brussels, Paris, Hawaii and the Caribbean. They retired to Naples, FL five years ago to play golf, enjoy the sunshine and live their best life together. His grandsons were his pride and joy and he was there to cheer them on for every major milestone including two state championships. His love for golf was passed on to his grandsons and he enjoyed teaching them the game. He also enjoyed taking them strawberry picking and showing them how to search for the real "beauties".

Ed developed a love of gardening at a young age. His beautiful and meticulous gardens were adored by friends and family. His enthusiasm for gardening didn't end when he sold his Waterford home in 2016. Ed's most recent gardening project was at his daughter and son-in-law's newest home in East Lyme.

In addition to Ed's gardening projects he also stayed busy amassing a large postcard collection of local attractions. Ed also enjoyed researching family tree's and discovering interesting stories about relatives from the past.

Ed was a kind, loving and generous husband, step-father, grandfather and family man. He is survived by his wife, Linda Behney, his step-children, grandsons, his brother, sisters and a cousin, two sisters-in-law, in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews.

Burial with Military Honors will be private on a later date at Jordan Cemetery in Waterford.
