I'm not sure why his death certificate states he was born in 1861.
He was actually born in 1872. His son, Albert gave the information on the certificate. He was 59 yrs. old when he died. If he were born in 1861, he would have been 69 yrs. old when he passed.
His mother (and my Gr-Gr- Grandmother) Mary Jane (Weller) Zeigler/Sherred was pregnant with him when his father, Charles Zeigler, was killed (Dec. 23, 1871) at the age of 33 when a log fell on him at work in Forest County, Pennsylvania.
John Zeigler's marriage certificate to Laura J. Craig states he was born in 1873.

The 1910 Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Census has Laura as the mother of 4 children and only 2 living (which was Charles P. and Albert R.)
Their daughter Mary Ada (Zeigler) Vertuca's birth certificate states she is child 5 born to this couple and only 3 living.
