He was born Aug. 9, 1939, to Adolph and Tillie (Schneider) Bayer in Hondo.
Bob was raised in Castroville and graduated from Castroville High School, where he participated in all school sports throughout his high school years. He married the love of his life, Pauline "Polly" Pavliska, on Oct. 22, 1960, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. Bob worked for 31 years at Stewart Warner/Alemite Division as a counter salesman, before retiring.
He then went on to become a sales agent for SPJST Life Insurance. He was the local SPJST Lodge 107 Floresville president for more than 30 years. Bob also was SPJST District 7 director for 34 years and served as chairman of the board for four years. Bob devoted his life to SPJST and was a strong supporter for the SPJST Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center. He was also an RVOS Farmers Mutual sales agent. Bob continued his community involvement as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 6641 of Sacred Heart, and a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, where he served as district deputy for two years.
Bob and Polly had three children. They had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life! He always looked forward to seeing them and had a huge smile on his face when they came around. Bob was an avid hunter and fisher. He loved bowling and playing dominoes with his father in law, Joe. They won many tournaments together.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Joe and Pauline Pavliska; sisters in-law Elizabeth Pavliska Bielefeld and Rebecca "Susan" Pavliska Blubaugh; and daughter-in-law April (Isom) Bayer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 5 p.m., in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville.
The family will hold a private family interment.
