A retired law enforcement investigator with 38 years of service, he died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. He was 65, a resident of Ventress and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was also a parishioner of St. Mary's of False River Catholic Church, and avid golfer, he enjoyed hunting and sports. He was a volunteer in athletics with Catholic High of Pointe Coupee School. He also worked for the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. The 18th Judicial Attorneys Office through four attorney general administrations. Visitation at St. Mary's of False River Catholic Church in New Roads on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 8:00 am until Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, Rev. Mike Schatzle celebrant. Inurnment to follow in Highland Park Cemetery at Sicily Island. Survived by son, John Sylvest; daughter, Lauren Sylvest; mother, Irene Marie Barrios Sylvest; brother, Jim Sylvest and wife Sarah; sisters, Barbara Wesley and husband Glen, and Janice Krcma and husband Doug; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and beloved friends. Preceded in death by wife, Diana Stubbs Sylvest; father, Truman Walter Sylvest; his wife's parents, William Perry Stubbs Sr. and Barnie Lee Stubbs; aunt, Annette Dixon; and uncle, James Sylvest.
