Stanley Wade James, 80, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2025, after a four-year battle with Multiple Myeloma and Alzheimer's disease. Born on February 23, 1945, he was a life-long resident of Richmond, Virginia. His family was the centerpiece of his life, and he will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, cousin and friend.

Stan is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Betty Williams James; their three children, David, Brian (Kathy), and Mary Beth El-Shafie (Kiere); and nine grandchildren: Caleb, Megan, Logan, Kennedy, Zanna, Harrison, Kate, Parker, and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry R. James and Virginia Jennings James.

After college at the University of Richmond, Stan married his high-school sweetheart, Betty, in 1967. He joined his father in business at the Harry R. James Insurance Agency where he worked for 50 years. After Harry retired, Stan continued to run the agency with his cousin, Don Farmer, Jr. Stan's kindness and integrity earned him the respect and trust of his clients and the loyalty of his longtime employees. Stan also served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

Stan was a life-long learner. Outside of his career, he had many passions and hobbies, including woodworking, boating, photography, and electronics. Above all, Stan cherished every moment spent with his family, especially at their vacation home on the Rappahannock River.

Stan loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Northminster Baptist Church for most of his life. He served as a deacon, was active in church planning committees, and played an integral role in the church's TV ministry and its implementation of a contemporary worship service. In recent years, he and Betty joined the fellowship of Northside Baptist Church.

Stan's humble generosity and sense of humor were a gift to so many. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at Northside Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, prior to a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. There will be a reception in the church's fellowship hall following the service. Northside Baptist Church is located at 7600 Studley Road in Mechanicsville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church's memorial fund (payable to Northside Baptist Church with "memorial fund" in the memo line and mailed to P.O. Box 2857 Mechanicsville, VA 23116).
