Scott Bill Hirst, lifetime historian, politician, passed on June 29, 2025. A lifetime resident of Hopkinton, he was born in Westerly on June 30, 1953, to the proud parents of Robert Scott Hirst and Ruth Carolyn Bill. In his youth he took to reading and enjoyed history and reading about the Presidents. While growing up his compassion for history stayed and it morphed into politics as well. Election season was his Superbowl. Following, Federal, State and local elections to the early morning hours. He followed the issues on all levels. He ran for the Hopkinton Town Council numerous times over the years win or lose always stayed active in anything Hopkinton. He most recently served as the Vice President of the Town Council during the 2022-2024 term. A true civil servant to his beloved Hopkinton. He was proud to be one of the longest civil servants on the council in Hopkinton. He loved his town and the people in it.

Scott was educated at the Ashaway Elementary School and Chariho Regional High School. His post high school learning saw him attend Rhode Island Junior College with an associate's degree in liberal arts and a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island Political Science.

He was an avid genealogist and helped many trace their family heritage.

He was involved in many Civic groups throughout his life. Following in his father's footsteps he was a member of DeMolay, the Freemasons and Knights Templar. Scott was also a lifetime member of The North Stonington, CT Grange in which his mother was a member for over sixty years. He was always an active member of any civic organization he was part of and willing to do what was best for that organization he participated in. He was also active in the Independent Order of Odd fellows and of Westerly Elks.

An honorable life of service and a life well lived.
