Melvin J. Zimmer
Melvin J. Zimmer, age 89, of One Penny Place, in Woodruff, WI, and formerly of St. Germain, WI, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Friendly Village Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rhinelander, WI.
He was born on Dec. 7, 1919, in the Township of Williamstown, WI, the son of Ed and Mary (Hausinger) Zimmer.
On July 13, 1940, he married his wife, Irene Hartwig, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Mayville, WI.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Irene of Woodruff, WI; daughter, Mary (Charles) Phillips of Gleason, WI; five sons, Patrick (Carol) Zimmer of Lake Mills, WI, Dennis (Patricia) Zimmer of Green Lake, WI, Kenneth (Lois) Zimmer of Fond du Lac, WI, Mark Zimmer of Stanley, WI, and John (Linda) Zimmer of Eagle River, WI; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers and one sister; two sons; one grandson; and a daughter-in-law.
■ Services: Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, in Eagle River, WI.
■ Visitation: Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Germain Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for the research of dementia/Alzheimer's disease through the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute, 7818 Big Sky Dr., Suite 215, Madison, WI 53719.
Arrangements are being handled by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, WI.
