Charleen Rae Spalding of Helena, Montana, passed away at home with family on December 31, 2025. She was born on July 18. 1940 in Helena. She worked for the State of Montana at the Public Employees Retirement and the State Tax Appeal Board. She was a tireless genealogist as well as very accurate. After retirement, she did endless research on the Broadwater, Jefferson, and Lewis & Clark County cemeteries. She produced a book on the Benton Ave cemetery. She was called "The Grave Yard Detective" and was awarded the Herb Jacobson Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. Herb Jacobson was an historian and architect in Helena, Montana, and was respected for his achievements and his designs. This award showed the respect Charleen had from the entire Helena community by providing essential information on pioneer life here. She will forever be missed.
