Vernon Abner was born on May 21, 1937, and died on November 30, 1989, at the age of 52. He was a graduate of Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. He was the author of one book, "Getting The Spirit", which was published by Kentucke Imprints in Berea, Kentucky. In his introduction to the book, he stated "Many times we get so hung up on words and definitions of these words that we miss the point trying to be made. Now don't get me wrong. I love big words. It's just that I can never spell them right, so I have to stay away from them." He entered Berea College as a freshman at the age of 36 after having served his country in the US Navy. Dr. Bill Best, Ph. D. and a professor at Berea College wrote of Vernon Abner in the preface to "Getting The Spirit" that "All of us...were made much richer by the presence of Vernon Abner." On the rear cover of "Getting The Spirit", Carl and Sandy Glover of Kentucke Imprints wrote "...we hope you celebrate Vernon Abner's humor and wit, feel his sorrow and depression, and share in his love and appreciation for all living beings. We trust that your venture into Vernon Abner's world will reward you for your time and effort."
