Dora May Springer Blanchard, 86, a former resident of 414 Glendale Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of Nella's Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life Wednesday evening, Jan. 21, 2004, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, Nov. 6, 1917, at Canaan Valley, the daughter of the late Everett E. Springer and Carrie Harr Springer. On Jan. 19, 1945, at the Belington Baptist Parsonage, she was married to Frederick Cook Blanchard, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1978.
Surviving are one sister, Virginia Stakem of Midland, Md.; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were three brothers, Arthur, David and John Springer; and three sisters, Lillian Borror, Pauline Hamilton and Elizabeth Stakem.
Dora attended the schools of Maryland, was a homemaker, was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and was a life member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Circle No. 5.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, the funeral hour. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Dora May Springer Blanchard.
