I started my interest in genealogy when I wanted to join the DAR and thought that my Great-grandmother was a member (she was actually in the Daughter's of America). I thought that I would be able to apply by proving my relationship to her. But, I realized that I would have to find and prove my ancestry to my Revolutionary War Hero instead. I have found several Rev War Heros since, one being James Craig. I have since have become addicted to it. In the process of collecting information, I realized how important gravesite information was for records. I wanted to make as much FREE information available to everyone as possible! Also, accuracy is important to me. I place high importance to including what was written on the headstone. I've noticed that some people skip that.
I promise to not create memorials based on obituaries published before the actual burial or even recent to the actual death. This is in poor form and disrespectful to those still mourning their loved ones. If you do it, you must cite the source, you cannot copy the picture published unless you are the owner, and you cannot include the names of the living, as per the rules given by findagrave.
I had several people contact me about the Old City vs Trinity Episcopal Church Cemeteries. Back around 2001? I visited the location of these cemeteries in Galveston, TX. This was before I knew about findagrave. I had the information written from the markers as well as photos of some of them posted on another website for TX cemeteries. What I didn't know was that while they are at the same location, the name of the cemetery depends on which sector that you are in. The only sign that was posted on that end of the cemetery was Old City. Once someone notified me, I went back in 2006 and noted where my markers were located. By that time, people had used what I put on the other website and posted it on here, but, the incorrect cemetery name!
