Since 1998, genealogy has brought me so much joy, especially when I'm able to help others find their families. Researching has confirmed all of those "unbelievable stories" that my grandparents told me as a child. I wish I would have listened more!
My grandfather told me about the time he walked from Maxie to Crowley, then I found it in the Crowley newspaper...."Mr. Harold Laughlin walked to Crowley one day last week." The Crowley Signal, Crowley, Louisiana 09 Dec 1905, Sat • Page 6.
He often talked about how his uncle was "assassinated" at the Long Point "Maxie" Bridge in 1887. In 2011, many years after my Pawpaw died, I found the article about Thomas Laughlin in the Rayne newspaper.
