Bio
I was born on July 22, 1939, in the Community of Mountain View, Germanton, Stokes County, North Carolina. My father was Gabe Kenner Hill and my mother, Treva Earlene Kiser Hill. My fraternal grandparents were Richard Sanders Hill, and Carrie Ellen Heath Hill, who were from the Rosebud Community of Walnut Cove, NC. My paternal grandparents were Walter Gains Kiser and Annie Delzern Warner Kiser, from the Mountain View Community of Germanton, NC. My father and mother are buried in the cemetery at Stanleyville First Baptist Church, Ziglar Rd., in Winston-Salem, My Hill grandparents in the Palmyra Methodist Church Cemetery, NC Highway 8, Walnut Cove, and my Kiser grandparents at Mount Olive Baptist Church, NC Highway 66, King, NC. I was born on my Kiser grandparents' farm and live there until 1947, when my parents and I moved from Stokes County to Forsyth County, in Stanleyville, which is now in the city limits of Winston-Salem.
I have been married to my wife, Cathy Ann Poindexter Hill, who is from Smithtown, near East Bend, in Yadkin County, NC, for 40 years. We have two children, one son, Alton McKiver "Mickey" Hill II and a daughter, Allison Michelle Oakes Newsom Duncan. We have four grandchildren, two boys and two girls. Mickey has a daughter, Taylor Lee Hill and a son, Alexander McKiver Hill, and Allison a daughter, Cara Leigh Oakes Duncan and a son, Corbin Oakes Duncan.
My wife, Cathy, and I serve on the Executive Board of Directors of the Poindexter Descendants Association, one of the largest and notable family associations in the world. Cathy is 2nd Vice President and I am Treasurer. Our web site is at http://www.poindexterfamily.org/.
Cathy is self-employed as a NC licensed child care provider and owns and operates her NC licensed home family child care center, Cathy's Child Care, in our home located at 735 Lacock Avenue, Rural Hall, NC, which is actually located in the edge of Stanleyville and 1/3 mile out of the city limits of Winston-Salem. She has been in business over 35 years.
Following my retirement from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC, on June 30, 2008, after a career spanning 35 1/2 years, I began to focus on doing more research on genealogy and family history. In August, 2008, I set up my own publishing company. For 2009, I intend to further promote our Poindexter Descendants Association, for which I serve as Treasurer, through my first book, using my contacts, family associations, bookstores, libraries, and internet technology and marketing.
I wrote my First Book, a family history, genealogy, book about one of the most prominent families in America and Europe, the Poindexter (Poingdestre) Family, and set up my own publishing company in 2008 This book may be purchased and personally autographed by me, by contacting me by e-mail at: [email protected], or by telephone at (336) 377-2954.
