I got interested in Ancestry family trees and Find a Grave after my wife died in 2007. An older relative of my wife learned of my interest, and after she died, I was given her files that she compiled with Family Tree Maker 4.0. There were over 30,000 people listed on her Family Tree Maker program. How she found all the information has been a mystery to me.

Slowly I have been going through the information from Family Tree Maker to confirm the family information with that found on Ancestry and the corresponding listings on Find A Grave. Needless to say, it has been an interesting trial and error process to make sure that the same (correct) information is on all three databases. If I cannot confirm the Family Tree Maker information, it does not get added to Ancestry or Find A Grave. But I love it when I find a listing on Find A Grave that only has the dates for birth and death and I can add the locations to the record. I also love adding numbers for fathers, mothers, children to the record to complete the family connections so that others may follow the trail.

I do my best to make sure the information I add is correct. But, if I do make a mistake, it was not done on purpose. (And I will admit to having fat fingers on the keyboard once in a while.) I am always happy to discuss any disagreements with fellow genealogists, if I may call myself one. It's fun to compare notes with other researchers.
