I've been doing genealogy research for years. I spent a lot of weekends at my grandmother's house and I do believe she started training me early, because as far back as I can remember she would get out the old newspaper clippings and go through family history. Her message was unspoken, but clear, "Don't forget those who went before you and honor your ancestors."
