When I began researching my family tree in 2003, I was amazed at how many resources were available online. Nearly ten years later, I continue to be pleased when more and more becomes available. While most of my family immigrated to New York and New Jersey and spent their lives there, most of my husband's family immigrated to Virginia and the Carolinas and migrated across the southern states to Texas and up to Oklahoma. It would be impossible to follow their steps in person across the country.

Along the way, I discovered Find A Grave. I found a few family members, added a few others, and requested photos from far away. Wanting to return the favor, I became a photo volunteer to help families who live far from me. It's been a great trip.

I am glad to seek out old or new graves in local cemeteries. I avoid isolated cemeteries and those that are overgrown. I add memorials when I can, especially adding family members as I go along.

I am always glad to transfer memorials to family. You can request a transfer by going to the memorial page and clicking on the Edit tab. Select "Suggest a correction or provide additional information." If you would simply like to suggest a family link or add a date to a memorial without a transfer, follow the same steps.
